WHO THE FRIENDS ARE

We love books and we love the Malden Public Library, just like you! Friend’s dues help support the library and its programs. Some of us take a more active role in planning and holding fundraising activities and other events. You are welcome as a Friend either way. It is up to you how big or small a role you’d like to play. The more involved you become, the more fun you’ll have… and the more Friends you’ll make!

WHAT WE DO

We organize events throughout the year to raise funds for the Malden Public Library.

Our fundraising activities include seasonal book sales and our annual wine tasting gala. The Friends partner with local businesses for some of our events, and you will see us with our pop-up book table collaborating with other Malden groups, and getting out to our community to expand our organization with diverse members. We look for other ways to fundraise for the MPL and increase our visibility; we welcome you and our ideas!

The Friends strives to reflect the diversity of Malden. Help us grow!

HOW THE FRIENDS HELP

Funds raised by the Friends have support many library programs and purchases, including:

• Public computers and library furniture,
• Children’s, Young Adult, and Adult Summer Reading program
• Movie night at the library
• Museum pass program
• Refreshments for all library events
• High-demand best-selling books, DVDs, and CDs
• Outdoor book drop for returning audio-visual materials
• Mango Language Online Learning system
• Career workshops
• Halloween and Holiday Book giveaways at City Hall
• Annual Holiday Concert
• Support for Malden Reads programming
• Gaming systems for YA programs
• Furniture for the Teen Room

HOW YOU CAN HELP

It’s up to you! Some members enjoy working at our Book Sales, others at our pop-ups around town. Others are good at planning, organizing and helping in our book room! All help us support the Library and its programs.

OUR MEETINGS

We meet on the first Tuesday of each month at 7pm. Come join us! At our meetings, we plan our fundraising events and grant the Library’s “wish list” to pay for items that include the MPL’s museum pass program, craft supplies for children’s and adult activities, snacks for movie nights, high-demand best-selling books, infrastructure such as Wi-Fi and computer equipment, online language learning programs and more.
